Integral Formation: A Formula for Success

Canyon Heights Academy achieves its mission and vision by implementing Integral Formation, the model of education developed by the Legionaries of Christ. Integral Formation is the harmonious development of all dimensions of the human person. In our education method, we focus on the following four dimensions: intellectual formation, character formation, spiritual formation and service to others.

Intellectual Formation develops a lifelong love for learning and truth and is primarily cultivated by our curriculum. Attention to the person maximizes learning with high academic standards and phonics-based reading, along with math, science and foreign language studies, which further prepare students for higher education and professional careers. Effective study habits, critical thinking, decision-making and communication skills are also developed.

Character Formation cultivates the skills necessary for an authentic Christian life. Appropriate behavior standards are formed through leadership opportunities, virtue campaigns, proper role models, discipline and formation of the will. Most importantly, students are motivated to form themselves through internal motivations rather than relying on external factors.

Spiritual Formation helps students develop a personal relationship with Christ, a deep understanding of the Faith and a life of grace and participation in the Sacramental life of the Church. Students gain respect for others of all faiths, engage in the conscious pursuit of a lived relationship with Christ and find the help of prayer to be an integral part of life.

Apostolic Formation helps students reach out to society with a conviction to live according to Christian ideals. With leadership, teamwork, initiative and perseverance, students gain social awareness, a practical understanding of service and a desire to contribute to the community and the mission of the Universal Church.

Integral Formation is the key formula for children destined to become mature, confident leaders who are prepared to build successful careers, marriages, families and communities.
