The written curriculum for Canyon Heights Academy is based on the curriculum written by the National Consultants for Education. The Standards, Benchmarks and Scope and Sequence in our written curriculum represent the best thinking of language, mathematics, science and social science educators and curriculum experts. They were developed from sources inside and outside the United States, as well as from the National Standards for the English Language Arts, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Science Education Standards, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Standards for History and National Geography Standards.

The Standards and Benchmarks in the written curriculum represent what we expect children to be able to achieve at various levels of their education, from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The difficulty of the material presented, the complexity of what students do with the material, and the sophistication of their skills change as students grow older. Teachers are expected to build upon a student’s knowledge and experience at one level to help him meet the benchmarks at the next level.

The end result is a comprehensive plan of education to produce a well formed mind across a ten year period such that each teacher understands in detail their role and their contribution.
