Physical
education is an integral part of the program at Canyon Heights. It
provides learning experiences that contribute to the psychomotor,
cognitive, and affective development of each student.Physical Education also gives students knowledge and skills to make the most of their physical and mental abilities. It gives them the building blocks necessary for good health. Further, students learn to assess their own physical fitness and maintain healthy levels of physical activity. They learn new skills and improve performance while gaining the self discipline to take part in individual and group activities. Students who participate in physical education activities on a regular basis learn the benefits of that participation and value its contribution to a healthy lifestyle.
Through the Physical Education curriculum students will acquire the knowledge needed to be physically fit and take part in healthful physical activity on a regular basis. Our program of physical education covers the following areas:
- Physical activity concepts that enable them to make informed decisions to monitor and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
- Development of motor skills through movement.
- Confidence and competence in movements and a variety of sports.
- Interacting positively with respect for others to develop a sense of team in physical competition.
- Understanding that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
Participation in physical education classes contributes to the overall success in the child’s school life because it develops self-confidence, social skills, and an appreciation that life is a gift from God. Students who are physically active at an early age are more likely to stay physically fit and active in their adult lives.
