Our curriculum in this area is the result of researching several
different study guides and systems, as well as researching the most
effective study methods. The goal is to help students acquire and
refine the study skills needed for success in school and beyond. In
particular, this curriculum is written for students in grades seven
and eight in order to prepare them for the expectations of private
High Schools.
In the lower grades teachers guide students in developing skills to
read effectively, take notes, participate in group discussions,
study for and take tests, write concisely, and study both inside
and outside of the classroom environment. Once students enter the
upper grades, teachers will often spend more time teaching the
subject fully expecting that students have already achieved the
skills needed to be successful within any course. For this reason,
Canyon Heights has adapted the study skill techniques of several
published systems to reinforce necessary study skill habits for
upper school.
